warm love in belfast
thanks to everyone who showed up at the belfast show last night and for all the thoughtful words spoken afterwards. once again it’s been the highlight of an irish tour. i felt i was amongst friends and music lovers, like we had history. twas a shame i had to hit the road sharpish and couldn’t stick around for a few drinks. next time hopefully…..

ok alone ok
today i went to supervalu and bought some yoghurt and a bottle of water and my total came to 3.03. i gave the guy 5.05 so i got 2.02 change. over the last few years i’ve ended up in rooms 101, 202, 303, 505, 606, 707, 808 and 909 at various hotels i’ve stayed in. these are all roland machines, synths and drum machines, made in japan in the 1980s which have been used quite a lot in the making of dance music since the acid house movement in the mid 80s. maybe it’s a sign that my true calling lies in electronic music although my current obsession with the new laura marling record has part of me pulled back to the more acoustic end of things. so many records to make………. might have to leave that hip hop record until my 40s
i own a tb303 and an mc202 which i’ve used quite a lot in the making of the spilly walker album which is close to completion. as i’m heavily in debt from the release of my last record i’m still trying to find a way of releasing the stuff but i can’t wait to get it out and i’m dying for those who’ve expressed excitement about it to hear it. it may end up as a digital only release on gold spillin much as it would be amazing to see a vinyl release. here’s an early mix from 2007 of one of the tracks likely to end up on the album. it features the 202 and 303 as well as samples of a 505…
earlier in the day a friend sent me this link to a reissue of a very curious record made in india in 1982 using all roland gear which predates the acid house movement. check it out…..http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=288726

snow business
in stockholm tonight with tindersticks on a day off. 12 gigs in 13 days has left everyone pretty fried but the gigs have been great, especially copenhagen where a packed-to-the-rafters vega showed its resounding appreciation.

a bit obsessed with this philo classic from the first thin lizzy album at the moment. i’m not crazy about the record as a whole but this is a real gem that rarely gets it’s dues….
